This is a really special piece of mid-century London civic history. This is an official 1960s London Borough of Barnet senior officer/alderman tie. It belonged to my relative, who held a high-up position with the council around the time the modern borough was officially formed in 1965. It features a deep navy blue background with a heavy vertical corded texture, decorated with a repeating embroidered emblem of the council's Saxon crown and civic rosette. A really cool hidden detail is the "club flash" ribbon inside the tail, which features the council’s official heraldic colors (red, yellow). This wasn’t a generic retail item—it was custom-ordered in a very small batch for top council officials to celebrate the merging of the boroughs in the mid-60s. Made by Macaseta Ltd. on Woodall Street in Macclesfield (the historic club tie specialists). Features its original 1960s "Terylene" Polyester tag (ICI Fibres). Back then, this was the premium, cutting-edge fabric marketed as "uncrushable" and iron-free.
